Kevin Nevels, Owner, Coppell Taekwondo Academy
Board Chairman 2020
What are you most excited about for 2020 as Chairman of the Board?
2020 is set up to be an amazing year for the Coppell Chamber of Commerce. I’m excited have an energetic Board of Directors that is ready to serve and chamber staff that are prepared for success. The chamber board and staff are focused on growing our big business base while continuing to serve what has always made the Coppell Business Community great, our successful Small Business Partners.
Why did you want to be involved with the Coppell Chamber of Commerce?
I am very grateful for what the Chamber does for my business. The Chamber provides a fourm for me to connect to other like-minded individuals, network with our city and school officials, and promote my business to the community. The Chamber has directly helped me grow my business and expand our reach in the community. For those reasons, I felt compelled to serve so I could spread the message about the benefits of being part of such a great organization.
What are your expectations as the incoming Chair of the Board of Directors?
I see this year as a pivotal year for our organization. We’ve seen growth with our big businesses that we are all excited about! Continuing that growth, as well as more opportunities to showcase our amazing small business community will be key for 2020. With this balanced approach, the Coppell Chamber of Commerce is set up for a truly remarkable year.
What is your profession?
I am the proud owner of Coppell Taekwondo Academy. I am currently a 5th degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and will be testing for my 6th Degree in 2020. Having the opportunity to spread my love of martial arts and self defense has also given me the pleasure of getting to know the young people of our community as well as their parents and families. Having the opportunity to spread the value of life skills and discipline has been such an honor. I feel extremely blessed to serve this community as an influencer and positive role model for the future leaders Coppell will produce.
What do you feel makes Coppell so special?
Where do I start!?!? Coppell has been my home since 1997. As a proud graduate of Coppell High School, a business owner, home owner, proud husband and father of 2 Coppell ISD students, Coppell truly is my home. This community has provided my family so much and I feel so connected to it, the schools, and the people. It truly is a special place.
Where does your passion for business development and community come from?
I was born in Vicksburg, MS and I saw the economic issues that my hometown faced. When we moved to Coppell, it felt like we moved to Mayberry. I feel so blessed to live, work, play, and raise a family here because it has been such a positive influence on me. I care deeply about the success of this town, the school district, and especially the business community. We are a three-legged stool and we all need each other to work together to be successful.
What is your favorite hobby away from work?
Well, besides kicking people in the head, I play Ice Hockey, collect Arcade Cabinets, love all things Marvel, and love to spend time with my family.
